#6 Bisping injured, #8 Munoz now faces Machida in Manchester

Looks like the UFC Fight Night 30 main event gets repackaged in a big way with Machida vs. #8 Munoz. #6 Michael Bisping was forced out of his fight against Mark Munoz with an eye injury. Lyoto Machida will now step in for Bisping. Machida was originally supposed to make his MW debut opposite #10 Tim Kennedy. It is unknown who will replace Machida to fight Kennedy or if anyone will at the moment.

NOTE: This fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the already scheduled top 15 fights there as well.

Live Rankings 2013 Update #1

Just a heads up. The 'LIVE RANKINGS' tab now lists the entire top 10. The same rules apply on the live rankings.

-Can only be ranked in one weight class

-Will be ranked in the most recent weight class last fought

-No suspended fighters will be eligible until they have returned once since their suspension

-If the general consensus if that a fighter got robbed a decision victory MMACover.com will treat it as a victory to the fighter that deserved to win

Champion vs. Challenger 2013 Update #1

Cain Velasquez -235 vs. Junior Dos Santos +190

Velasquez's pace is too much for most HW's if not all HW's. If Dos Santos doesn't knockout Velasquez within the first 2 rounds he loses his spring and the damage is done. Meaning, Velasquez is going to continue that relentless pace while Dos Santos is a lot slower and faded by the 3rd round.

Pick: I would bet Velasquez at these odds.

Jon Jones -425 vs. Alexander Gustafsson +315

Jones has to make adjustments that will solidify a win and Gustafsson has to do what he did and then some. I believe Jones is going to win more decisively but at these odds there is value in picking Gustafsson.

Pick: I would pick Gustafsson at these odds

Chris Weidman +100 vs. Anderson Silva -125

Weidman's got Silva beat on the ground. Silva is dangerous standing up but the more he commits to his strikes the more susceptible he is to get taken down.

Pick: Take Weidman especially at underdog money

Georges St. Pierre -225 vs. Johny Hendricks +180

Hendricks only has one path to victory and that's his left cross connecting square on St. Pierre's chin. St. Pierre has a good jab that can keep Hendricks' left cross from connecting and St. Pierre can shoot for a takedown from distance. Hendricks has nothing off of his back as we saw last year against Koscheck.

Pick: Take St. Pierre especially at 2 to 1 odds

Anthony Pettis -270 vs. Josh Thomson +220

Thomson is a kickboxer at heart and Pettis is a kickboxer fused with Tae Kwon Do. They're both also good on the ground. It's anybodies fight on the ground and Thomson doesn't have the wrestling to hold Pettis down so expect Pettis to win the exchanges on the feet.

Pick: Take Pettis before the odds inflate any higher

Jose Aldo -715 vs. Ricardo Lamas +510

Assuming the UFC makes this match up Aldo should win this fight. But tread cautiously because Aldo isn't the sniper he once was at the WEC. Most of his fights are going to decision now and he tends to slow down in the title rounds. So if Lamas can make it to those last few rounds the fight could get interesting.

Pick: Take Aldo but tread cautiously on the steep line.

Dominick Cruz +215 vs. Renan Barao -265

Assuming Cruz is ready by early 2014 this fight is going to be a tall order for him. Cruz's style has flustered his previous opponents but there are too many red flags to pick him to win. Will the layoff affect his performance? Will he be 100% going into the fight? Does he need a tune up fight?

Pick: Take Barao before the line inflates any higher

Demetrious Johnson -135 vs. Joseph Benavidez +105

This fight is too close. Team alpha male are unbeaten since Ludwig joined their team. In their first fight Benavidez lost via split decision. Is the acquisition of Ludwig going to be enough for Benavidez to win this time around? This fight can literally go either way.

Pick: I would pass since line is close; too even so that you have  a 50% chance of losing your money

Ronda Rousey -1065 vs. Miesha Tate +625

Rousey always tends to find a way to armbar all her opponents but don't bank on her just yet. Tate has offered the most resistance out of every single opponent Rousey has faced and she maybe could have done more if she wasn't fighting out of emotion. So that's something to think about.

Pick: Pass the line is too deep and the win isn't as definite as it looks.

NOTE: the red means the fight is currently not official.

#12 Poirier vs. Brandao will happen at UFC 168

Following 3 straight wins Diego Brandao gets a step up in competition in #12 Dustin Poirier. Brandao most
recently beat Daniel Pineda last August while Poirier is coming off of a win over #14 Erik Koch.

NOTE: this fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can also see the rest of the top 15 scheduled fights there also.

#11 Bader vs. Perosh added to UFC in Australia

#11 Ryan Bader will look to get back on the win column on December 7th in Australia. While Anthony
Perosh will return to his home country following a knockout win over Vinny Magalhaes. Bader will look to erase the memory of his last fight with #10 Glover Teixiera. This fight will most likely air on the main card.

#7 Elliott vs. Bagautinov will happen at UFC 167

Ali Bagautinov gets a step up in competition in #7 Tim Elliott this November at UFC 167. Elliott is fresh off of defeating #8 Louis Gaudinot while Bagautinov coming off his first UFC win via TKO.

#14 Johnson meets Tibau at UFC 168

Rising LW contenders #14 Michael Johnson and Gleison Tibau will meet on December 28th at UFC 168. Johnson earned a much needed win over #15 Joe Lauzon while Tibau most recently edged Jamie Varner by split decision.

NOTE: this fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see all the other top 15 scheduled fights there also.

#1 Johnson defends title against #2 Benavidez at the TUF 18 Finale

After stringing together 3 wins in a row, #2 Joseph Benavidez gets his inevitable rematch against #1 'Mighty
Mouse' Johnson. The two originally fought at UFC 152 Johnson claiming the inaugural title via split decision. You gotta wonder, will the acquisition of 'Bang' Ludwig be enough for Benavidez to right the wrong? We'll find out later this year.

NOTE: this fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 scheduled fights there too.

#4 Rockhold injured, #11 Boetsch now meets Dollaway at UFC 166

A knee injury forces #4 Luke Rockhold out of his scheduled fight with #11 Tim Boetsch. Boetsch will now meet CB Dollaway who is coming off 2-wins. While Boetsch is on the other end of the spectrum officially coming of 2 losses or 3 if you want to count his #10 Lombard fight.

NOTE: This fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 fights already scheduled there as well.

UFC on Fox 9 adds #3 Condit vs. Brown

The already star studded fox show now adds former interim champion #3 Carlos Condit taking on Matt Brown. Condit just recently snapped a 2-fight losing streak with his win over #6 Martin Kampmann, while Brown is on a 6-fight winning streak. Condit culminates into the toughest test of Brown's current unbeaten streak. Brown's currently not ranked on mmacover.com because like I say, "quality over quantity." This will be the first top 10 opponent Brown faces in recent memory so that's a start.

NOTE: this fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 fights already scheduled there also.

#15 Joe Lauzon meets Mac Danzig at UFC on Fox 9

Both #15 Lauzon and Danzig look to get back on the win column each coming from back to back losses. Danzig droped a split decision to Takanori Gomi and a knockout loss to Melvin Guillard. Lauzon has dropped two decisions to #11 Jim Miller and #14 Michael Johnson. Lauzon being the regular crowd pleaser and bonus winner his job should be safe even with a third loss, but you never want to go three in a row losing. While, Danzig has been losing more than winning it's imperative he gets the win.

Jorgensen debuts at flyweight vs. #3 McCall at UFC on Fox 9

#5 BW Scott Jorgensen will look to make his FLY debut against #3 Ian McCall on December 14th; UFC on Fox 9. Jorgensen has had mixed results at BW as of late, specifically in his UFC run. #3 McCall picked up his first UFC win at UFC 163 against Illiarde Santos. McCall will now face his second former BW and look to make it 2 wins in a row while Jorgensen looks for a successful drop to 125 pounds.

NOTE: This fight has been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 fights already scheduled there too.

#4 Mendes vs. #13 Lentz will happen at UFC on Fox 9

#4 Chad Mendes will have to continue on his road back to title contention this time opposite #13 Nik Lentz. Lentz was originally set to face Dennis Bermudez but for unknown reasons he will now face Mendes. Mendes is on a 4-fight winning streak since his loss to #1 Jose Aldo and will look to continue that with a win over Lentz. Lentz is 3-0 since dropping to FW and if he can make it 4-0 he himself could be getting a title shot.

NOTE: This fight has already been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 fights already confirmed there too.

#5 Browne vs. #8 Barnett gets added to UFC 168

The ever growing UFC 168 card adds another blockbuster fight, this time #5 Travis Browne vs. #8 Josh
Barnett. Since losing to #4 'Bigfoot' Silva, Browne has won 2 in a row both via first round knockout (over #15 Gonzaga and #6 Overeem). #8 Barnett's lone loss in the last 7 years has only been to #3 Daniel Cormier, most recently beating #9 Frank Mir by TKO.

NOTE: This fight has already been added to the 'UPCOMING FIGHTS' tab. You can see the rest of the top 15 already scheduled fights there also.

#9 Thomson replaces #4 Grant, meets #1 Pettis at UFC on Fox 9

#9 Thomson will get the original fight he wanted, but this time the stakes are even higher as #1 Pettis now
holds the UFC lightweight title. #4 TJ Grant is still not feeling 100% so the UFC opted to go with Thomson who is coming of a split decision loss to #3 Gilbert Melendez and a TKO win over #10 Nate Diaz. The title fight will still headline UFC on Fox 9 as scheduled.

UFC Light Heavyweight Title Picture 2013 Update #1

Current Champion: Jon Jones

LH Landscape
Lyoto Machida:
After getting the wrong end of a controversial decision to Davis at UFC 163 Machida looks to drop down to 185 pounds. At this point Machida just wants the quickest route to a title fight. Now that Anderson Silva is no longer champion he might want to have a go with middleweight champion Chris Weidman (should he retain his belt in December). Machida is already scheduled to meet Top 15 middleweight Tim Kennedy on November 6th in Brazil. That's a step in the right direction.

Rashad Evans:
Evans recently snapped a 2-fight losing streak defeating Henderson by split decision. So, a title shot isn't in the immediate horizon for Evans at the moment. Evans instead will be fighting Sonnen at UFC 167 in Las Vegas. I expect Jones to fight Gustafsson and Teixeira before accepting rematches. So while Jones fights off fresh challengers Evans must keep winning in the mean time.

Dan Henderson:
Henderson was scheduled to face Jones at UFC 151 for the LH title but a knee injury forced him out of the fight. Upon returning he opted to stay active instead of continuing to wait for his title shot. By doing so he lost two razor close split decisions to the 2 men ranked above him; Machida and Evans. With back to back losses and at age 43 it's not looking good for Henderson title hopes. Hopefully for him he could turn things around in his rematch with Belfort.

Alexander Gustafsson:
After Jones refused to give Machida a rematch and Machida opted to stay active, Gustafsson gets his wish; a shot at the title. The two will meet on September 21st at UFC 165.

Chael Sonnen:
I don't see Sonnen getting another title shot anytime soon. Sonnen was Jones' easiest title defense of them all and most recent one as well. So the one sided beatdown is still fresh in our minds, even with Sonnen's recent win over 'Shogun'.

'Shogun' Rua:
Mauricio 'Shogun' is on the verge of losing his spot in the top 10. He either needs to regain his form that won him the LH title or fall further down the ladder. By no means will 'Shogun' get a title shot anytime soon but a win over Te Huna this December is a step in the right direction.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira:
Might I say this is the dark horse of the LH division? I think so. Since losing to Davis, Nogueira dominated Tito Ortiz, which avenges his loss to Bader, then upset Evans, which avenges his loss to Davis. Upon returning from his back injury, with proper matchmaking Nogueira could be close to title contention. In the mean time he's flying under the radar.

Phil Davis:
Officially Davis has earned the biggest win of his career, but unofficially most of the mma community thinks he lost to Machida. As a result of this controversial win he's not on the UFC's list of  possible title challengers  just yet.

Glover Teixeira:
Following his win over Bader, Teixeira was promised the next title shot by the UFC. Now nothing means anything until the cage door shuts, but with no other fresh challenger on a winning streak like him and Gustafsson currently have, who else is left?

Ryan Bader:
If Bader ever wants a title shot he's gonna to have to not just get better, but evolve because what he brings to the table has hit a glass ceiling and its not going to be enough to pick up crucial wins like the Machida and Teixeira fights. It'll be enough to beat Brilz and Matyushenko but there's a reason why those guys aren't in the UFC anymore. So if Bader wants a title shot he needs to pick up some signature wins, in order to do that he needs to evolve plain and simple.

UFC Heavyweight Title Picture 2013 Update #1

Current Champion: Cain Velasquez

HW Landscape
Junior Dos Santos:
Despite losing to Velasquez quite decisively just last December, Dos Santos gets his rematch on October 19th at UFC 166. Although the HW division has grown over the last few years it still lacking in the title challengers department. It only took one win to get right back into a title fight with Velasquez. To his credit he does have a win over Velasquez and has made it pretty clear he's the best HW out there to fight Velasquez (even for the third time).

Daniel Cormier:
If Cormier and Velasquez weren't friends and training partners we would have seen them fight each other at UFC 160. They both have made it pretty clear they're not going to fight each other. On the very same card on October 19th, Cormier intends to fight for the last time as a HW against Roy Nelson. Even if Dos Santos wins at UFC 166 Cormier already has his eyes set on the LH title. Him and Jon Jones have been exchanging  words these past few months and he could find himself fighting Jones in the near future. But he's gotta get past Nelson first.

Antonio 'BigFoot' Silva:
Notice above at the chart where you can see losses to Velasquez highlighted in yellow. That's not a good thing. Reason being is obvious; with a loss to the current champion its going to be very hard to get a rematch. Which makes things all the worst for 'Bigfoot' because he has two losses to the champion. With two losses to Velasquez it only puts 'Bigfoot' in no-mans-land. 'Bigfoot' will fight Mark Hunt in Australia in December but a win over Hunt doesn't take him out of his predicament.

Travis Browne:
Realistically speaking Browne could be one win away from title shot. In my eyes he should be the next in line for the title but it seems the UFC are headed in a different direction. Browne is rumored to be fighting Stipe Miocic on December on the UFC on Fox 9 card. With a win over Miocic people will be buzzing for Browne's inevitable title shot in 2014.

Alistair Overeem:
Upon signing with the UFC, Overeem turned down two title shots. Now, Overeem is nowhere near a title shot. Lets rewind. Overeem entered the UFC ranked #3 behind Velasquez and Dos Santos. Instead of fighting the winner of their match, Overeem opted to fight Brock Lesnar and he did so successfully and gets his title shot against JDS. Just weeks before his title fight he tests positive and is suspended ultimately returning at UFC 156 getting knocked out by 'Bigfoot' Silva followed by Browne this past August.

Fabricio Werdum:
Since losing to Overeem, Werdum has made a successful transition back into the UFC going 3-0 as of today. With back to back wins over Nelson, Russow, and Nogueira he may have enough on his resume to win over the UFC's vote and get the next title shot. I personally disagree because I believe Browne has surpassed him but it looks like the UFC is headed in that direction.

Josh Barnett:
The dark horse of the HW division is not so dark anymore. Even though is win over Mir ended in controversy, he did put his name into the hat of possible title challengers for Velasquez or Dos Santos. I personally would like a Werdum-Barnett title eliminator but your guess is as good as mine as to whats next for the Warmaster.

Frank Mir:
It's no secret Mir is fighting for his job on November 16th at UFC 167. Obviously crazier things have happened. If there is anyone who's immune from getting cut by the UFC its Mir. But for competitive reasons even if the UFC doesn't cut him (should he lose to Overeem) he might consider retirement. So a title shot is a foregone conclusion right now. Mir better just worry about getting back on the win column.

Antonio Rodrigo 'Minotauro' Nogueira:
Nogueira has obviously seen better days. Since losing the Interim title Nogueira has exchanged wins and losses. Since those wins have been to non top 10 competition he has only fallen down the rankings and he hasn't recovered. Nogueira seems to be fighting for the sake of competing. I think its safe to say his days fighting for a title are over.

Mark Hunt:
With Barnetts win over Mir Hunt has become my new dark horse of the HW division. Before losing to JDS, Hunt was riding the 4 fight winning streak. Even in defeat Hunt looked exceptionally good against JDS. Hunt will fight 'Bigfoot' in his native Australia on December 21st. A win over 'Bigfoot' puts him in a good spot for a title shot.

#8 'Pitbull' meets Guerreiro at Bellator 103

#8 'Pitbull' advanced to the semifinals of the Bellator featherweight tournament with a quick knockout win over Diego Nunes and will now meet considerable underdog Fabricio Guerreiro. Guerreiro picked up a win over Bellator rookie, Desmond Green to advance into the semifinals. The fight takes place at Bellator 103 on October 11th. Guerreiro looks to score a huge upset over #8 'Pitbull' while, 'Pitbull' looks to get a step closer to a rematch with #5 Pat Curran.

#2 Faber vs. #3 McDonald has been added to UFC on Fox 9

Bantamweight contenders and former title challengers #2 Urijah Faber and #3 Michael McDonald will
square off on December 14th on the UFC on Fox 9 card. The fight will most likely air on the main card. Since losing to current interim title holder #1 Renan Barao, #2 Faber has racked up 3 consecutive wins over Ivan Menjivar, #5 Scott Jorgensen, and Yuri Alcantara. While, #3 McDonald, has recently rebounded from his interim title fight loss to #1 Barao, with the submission win over #6 Brad Pickett. Depending on Dominick Cruz's recovery, the winner of the fight could find themselves back in the title hunt.

#1 Pettis vs. #4 Grant will headline UFC on Fox 9

Newly crowned lightweight champion #1 'Showtme' Pettis will make his first title defense opposite #4 TJ
Grant as expected. Since losing to now featherweight Clay Guida, #1 Pettis has won his last 4 straight which includes his second win over #2 Ben Henderson to claim the lightweight title. Since dropping to 155, #4 Grant is yet to taste defeat. #4 Grant was originally scheduled to meet #2 Henderson for the title but a concussion in training forced him out of the title fight. Instead, #4 Grant will now face the new title holder #1 Pettis on December 14th live on Fox.

has been hot and cold since losing his light heavyweight title to #1 Jon Jones and is currently on a 2-fight losing streak against fellow top 10 fighters; #5 Gustafsson and #6 Sonnen. James Te Huna was on a 4-fight winning streak before losing to #10 Glover Teixeira by submission. Both men look to rebound in Australia which happens to be Te Huna's home country.

MMA Rankings After UFC Fight Night 28: Teixeira vs. Bader

(#1 Velasquez)
HEAVYWEIGHTS:
#1 CAIN VELASQUEZ - UFC CHAMPION
